7 Motorhomes for State and National Parks

Some of the most beautiful, popular, and affordable campgrounds in America are state and national parks. They are the preferred destinations for thousands of RVers each year.

There’s just one catch: Many of these parks only allow RVs that are 30 feet or under. With that as our top priority, today we’re showcasing 7 awesome motorhomes that are perfect for state and national parks. They are in no particular order and each of these choices offers something special.

Important: Features can change from one model year to the next so you may find that a “must have” feature is only available in certain years. This means that to get the features you want most you may need to consider new or pre-owned units.

The only question is, which one is the best fit for you? Let’s find out, America…

RV LIFE Trip Wizard

Thor Axis

The Thor Axis has come in different models ranging from 24.1 feet to 27.7 feet. It is the same as the sister product, the Thor Vegas. The Axis line is listed as a Class A on the Thor website but if you have ever struggled to decide if you want a Class A or a Class C, this model is a crossover because they are built on a Class C Ford E-Series Chassis.

What this gives you is a unique motorhome for state and national parks with a Class A look and feel with several Class C benefits.

Which floor plan is best for you? It may depend on whether you need a king-size bed or if you’re good with a Murphy bed.

For example, the 27.7 offers a king-size bed, a sofa, and a dinette. And if you like to have your television directly across from your sofa, the 27.7 is a strong contender. This model also has a really nice size shower.

However, if you go with an Axis 24-foot unit the floorplans are different.  You’ll need to choose between a dinette or a sofa due to the smaller size.

You can go HERE to watch our in depth review of the Thor Axis 27.7 on the Matt’s RV Reviews Youtube channel.

Or, if you prefer a smaller unit, you can watch our review of the Thor Axis 24.4 below…

Thor ACE 29.5

The next model that’s perfect for state and national parks is also by Thor.

It’s the ACE 29.5 and it just barely makes the length requirement. The ACE is America’s number one selling RV and this is one of Thor’s newer floorplans.

Thor ACE 29.5

Thor ACE 29.5

RV LIFE Trip Wizard

This model gives you the great features of a Class A at the price point of a Class C. It’s powered by the 7.3 liter Godzilla Ford V-8 engine. Some nice features include a great-sized power awning and an awesome outside kitchen. However, the bunk over the cab only holds 250 pounds so it’s best suited for kids and your non-paying customers. Keep in mind though that this is a price point motorhome.

That said, it has a nice farmhouse-style interior. And the living area is well thought out. The TV is easily visible from the dinette and the sofa. The driver and passenger seats in the front swivel and become part of the living area. And the kitchen and bathroom are a decent size and there’s a good amount of storage, too. Plus, the bedroom is spacious as well with nightstands on both sides of the bed.

If you need more living space than what the Thor Axis offered, then the ACE 2.9.5 is a budget-friendly model to consider. If you want to check it out further, you can watch this in-depth review below.

Entegra Odyssey 30Z

If you prefer to go with a traditional Class C motorhome then the Entegra Odyssey 30z is a top contender.  Like the Thor ACE 29.5, the Odyssey 30z is available with a farmhouse interior. It is built on the Ford E-450 Series chassis with the 7.3 liter Godzilla V-8 so it has plenty of power.

As you can see, the 30Z has a seamless front cap and a windshield in the bunk area, too. There’s a power shade for that window so you can easily control the amount of light coming in. And the bunk over the cab holds an astonishing 750 pounds.

The interior is very spacious and fully accessible from front to back even when the slide-outs are in. The dinette is a good size and you also have comfortable theater seats directly across from a huge TV and an electric fireplace that does generate heat.

This is one of the best overall Class C floorplans and it looks great with the farmhouse interior. It’s perhaps the perfect combination of quality and price.

Entegra Vision 27A

Next, we have another motorhome from Entegra that is perfect for state and national parks. It is a true Class A that is only 29 feet, 11 inches.

Entegra Vision 27A

Entegra Vision 27A

The Entegra Vision 27a is built on Ford F53 chassis with the 7.3 liter Godzilla V-8 engine and a computer-balanced driveshaft.

With that F53 chassis, you’re going to get more side storage and bigger tires for a smoother ride. As you can see from the picture, this motorhome is available with full body paint as an option, though it is an upgrade. Also with the true Class A chassis, you get amenities like two AC units and 50-watt power and a Cummins 5500 Generator.

The inside is a beautiful farmhouse interior as well. You get a full couch and dinette, and you can walk from the front to back with the slideouts in. The bunk over the cab holds 750 pounds, which is fully three times as much as the Axis.

The kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom are all good sizes considering the length of the motorhome. If you’re looking for a true Class A that is just small enough to go to state and national parks, this is a strong contender.

Winnebago Sunstar 27 PE

When many people think of RVs they think of the name Winnebago. And I’m super excited to introduce the smallest Winnebago Class A. It’s also perfect for state and national parks and it is identical to the sister product, the Winnebago Vista.

Winnebago Sunstar

Winnebago Sunstar 27 PE

It’s 28 feet 8 inches and it’s a tier two gas-powered motor home, which means it is not entry-level but not a luxury model either. Like the Entegra Vision, full body paint is an upgrade option and partial body paint is standard.

What’s special about the Winnebago brand is that most of the components inside the unit are made by Winnebago whereas most manufacturers rely on outside suppliers. This unit is at a lower price point than the Entegra Vision though they are similar in size.

The Sunstar is thoughtfully equipped. It has two air conditioners and a solar panel. The kitchen doesn’t have a lot of space but everything is high quality. And the living area includes a dinette and a couch as well as a good-sized and well-placed TV.

If you’re looking at Class A’s that are small enough to fit state and national parks, the Sunstar is well worth considering.

Coachmen Pursuit 27 XPS

All of the Class A motorhomes on this list have gas engines and are small enough for state and national parks. But the Coachman Pursuit 27 XPS is also the cheapest. If price is your biggest priority, check this unit out…

Coachmen Pursuit 27 XPS

Coachmen Pursuit 27 XPS

RV LIFE Trip Wizard

This is by definition a price point motor home. It doesn’t have a slideout but it does have a ton of storage space outside and in. It only has one A/C unit and no solar panels and no auto leveling. There are no frills here, America.

However, the Pursuit 27 XPS does have nice features like a rearview camera, a power awning, and nice master bedroom, and a Cummins 4000 gasoline generator.

It also has a dinette and a full sofa as well as a decent-sized kitchen. The furniture is comfortable and the big TV is well placed and this floorplan has a great layout. And because there are no slideouts, you can always walk through the RV with ease.

That said, the bunk over the cab only holds 300 pounds. That’s probably okay for kids and your non-paying customers.

If you’re considering the Coachman Pursuit 27 XPS, keep in mind that this is the best-priced motorhome in America. And there’s a lot to like about it.

Fleetwood Flair 29M

Did we save the best for last? Because this may be the best Class A motorhome for state and national parks. Fleetwood is one of our favorite brands so that’s no surprise.

Fleetwood Flair 29M

Fleetwood Flair 29M

RV LIFE Trip Wizard

It’s a Class A gas motorhome powered by Ford’s 7.3 liter Godzilla V-8 engine.  This model is the same as the Holiday Rambler Admiral and is an entry-level price point in the Fleetwood lineup.

That said, the Flair has many nice features such as two air conditioning units, frameless windows, an outside kitchen, a power awning with LED lights, and a big exterior TV. The driver and co-captain seats are comfortable, just like the sofa. The dinette is L-shaped and the TV is in a decent position. Plus, the kitchen is good-size with ample counter space and a compressor fridge.

We really liked the layout of this Class A and it offers attractive features and amenities that go above and beyond the others.
