2022 American Coach Patriot MD2
If you’re looking for great fuel economy with a luxury look and feel, check out the American Coach Patriot MD2. This is the most beautiful Class B motorhome we have ever seen. And that’s no surprise because it’s made by American Coach.
In case you didn’t know, American Coach is famous for its luxury Class A diesel pushers.

And as you can see, the color and the construction on the Patriot MD2 are absolutely on point. This unit is 24ft 4 inches tip to tip and is built on the Mercedes Benz chassis. It is a small unibody chassis and some would call it a conversion van because is so compact and easy to drive.
It does look and feel more like an automobile than a motorhome. It also has amazing attention to detail and a truly high-end appearance. With that said, the Patriot MD2 doesn’t have a lot of weight added to it and it has a powerful diesel engine, so it reportedly averages 15 to 17 mpg.

2022 Coachmen Nova 20RB
Are you looking for a high-quality Class B that gets great gas mileage and has a more budget-friendly price tag? Then definitely consider the Coachmen Nova.
It is a Class B motorhome built on a Ram 3500 Promaster chassis. This chassis is the smallest and cheapest you can get in the Class B market.
And just like the American Coach Patriot MD2, this is a Class B camper van that is going to be as easy to drive as an everyday vehicle. In terms of fuel economy, it is a gas engine with a reported 11 to 15 mpg.
2022 Coachmen Nova 20RB
Where the Coachman Nova shines is in the pocketbook category. Unlike the Patriot MD2, it’s about 4 feet shorter and its retail sale price can be under (or very close to) the 100k price point!
And yet the Nova still has impressive features like a power awning, a backup camera, a Truma instant tankless water heater, two 100w solar panels, and an Onan QG 2900 generator. By the way, if you prefer to go full solar and not have propane, that upgrade is available in the LI3 package.
What stands out on the Coachman Nova is the huge rear bathroom. It’s probably the biggest we’ve seen in a Class B motorhome. It’s FANTASTIC!

2022 Coachmen Beyond 22D
Like the Nova, the 2022 Coachman Beyond 22D is also a Coachmen motorhome. It’s built on the Ford Transit series chassis and is 22 feet, 2 inches from tip to tip, and gets a reported 11 to 13 mpg.

When it comes to chassis types among these 5 fuel-efficient motorhomes, this might be our favorite.
Why? The reason is that they all drive differently. Typically, the Mercedes drives the best, then the Ford, and then the Ram. The Ford is more expensive than the Ram but it is cheaper than the Mercedes. The MSRP on this unit reflects that as well. It’s between the Patriot and the Nova on this list of 4 RVs that get great gas mileage..
With that said, the Ford Transit Series is as comfortable a ride as the Mercedes. And because the Ford Transit is gas-powered, the headroom in this unit is amazing.
Plus, the Coachman Beyond 22D has all-wheel drive (AWD). And like the Coachman Nova, you can upgrade to full solar with the LI3 package if you want to.

2022 Jayco Melbourne Prestige 24NP
The Jayco Melbourne Prestige is what many would call a B+ Motorhome. Unlike the previous units on this list, this is a Class C motorhome.
In fact, there is no such thing as a B+ and the reason why they call it a B+ is that it's shaped like a B but it’s a little bigger. Regardless of if you call this unit a B+ or C, it is an awesome small motorhome that gets great mileage.
2022 Jayco Melbourne Prestige 24NP
Like the Patriot MD2, the Jayco Melbourne Prestige 24NP rides on a Mercedes Chassis. The reported fuel economy is a little lower at 12 to 15 mpg because it’s bigger and heavier than a normal Class B motorhome.
The 24NP is not as aerodynamic because of its greater size and that also reduces the gas mileage. What is a huge advantage to this B+ style motorhome is that it can have a slide-out, which makes it bigger than a regular class B motorhome. Plus, the Melbourne Prestige 24NP comes with a bunk over the cab for additional sleeping capacity.
The reason why these are so popular with RVers is that they have the potential to be the best of both Class B and C worlds. That means you can get a pretty spacious RV with great fuel economy.
And that’s why some are calling this kind of motor home the “pleasure weight killer”. Jayco has introduced an innovative unit that is ahead of the competition in features as well as design.
