4 Awesome Mid Profile 5th Wheels

What if you want a 5th wheel but you need to stay within a certain budget?

Then it’s important to keep in mind a core part of the budget includes how much weight your truck can tow because 5th wheels come in all kinds of sizes, shapes, and prices…

Wil and Jen of Wil & Jen’s YouTube channel faced that exact situation when they were looking to upgrade their 5th wheel from a Cougar to something new.

So, they met Matt at RV ONE to look at four mid-profile 5th wheels that they could tow with their Chevy 2500HD truck and stay within their budget.

These units share similar floorplans, price points, and weight. But in the end, there can be only one winner. As always, each had pros and cons so the choice wasn’t easy.

They are bestselling models from popular brands so we know many RVers will be faced with the same choices. So, let’s go take a look at these four awesome mid-profile 5th wheels…

2022 Grand Design Reflection 337RLS

2022 Grand Design Reflection 337RLS

The Grand Design Reflection 337RLS is a strong contender in the mid-profile category. It’s a real living room floorplan with a high-quality feel that is a favorite for full-time RVers.

It has an impressive double awning that provides shade for the whole camp area, making it a great choice for outdoor entertaining. That said, it doesn’t have an outside kitchen or TV.

The interior has rich, dark wood cabinets and furniture colors. The rear living room has a big TV directly across from the Thomas Paine theater seats. The couch has a pullout bed and the living area is surrounded by big windows and has a flush floor slideout.

In the kitchen, you get a high-end Furrion cooktop with a large counter to the right. It has a two-way fridge and the exterior matches the dark wood cabinetry. There’s a lot of storage space in this kitchen and a taco bar, too.

The bathroom has a nice big shower that passes Wil’s tall test easily. And the toilet aced the “Four P’s” - a porcelain toilet with a prime pooping position.

The bedroom has big dressers but no TV, though there is a huge closet and plenty of storage. Like the other units, it’s prepped for a washer and dryer.

In terms of things Wil and Jen didn’t prefer, there was carpet in the bedroom and the interior color scheme was a bit too dark.

However, the Reflection 337RLS definitely had the look and feel of a 5th wheel suitable for full-time living.

2022 Keystone Arcadia 3660RL

2022 Keystone Arcadia 3660RL

Next on the list was the Keystone Arcadia 3660RL...

The layout was almost identical to the Grand Design Reflection. Except that the interior color scheme was much lighter, which Wil and Jen liked. You get a mixture of shaker-style white cabinets with natural wood color floors.

The kitchen had a big pantry and offered plenty of counter space between the island and the area to the right of the cooktop. The island gives you a counter to sit at and eat as well. You also get a big pantry, a two-way fridge, and a taco bar with an attractive backsplash.

The bathroom also offered a good-sized shower that easily passed Wil’s tall test and the toilet also achieved the “four P’s”.

The bedroom stood out because it offers a king-size bed and a nice seating area with storage underneath.  There was an odd-sized cabinet on one side of the bedroom that Wil and Jen both agreed was more in the way than useful. And there were some concerns about drawer space in the bedroom, though there are drawers in the closet.

In terms of differences, the Arcadia did not have a 2nd awning like the Grand Design, but Jen really liked the light color scheme throughout with medium brown tones (especially on the couch) and natural wood look.

In fact, this was probably her favorite interior design, however, the materials didn’t quite match the Grand Design in terms of quality and sturdiness.

2022 Alliance Avenue 32RLS

2022 Alliance Avenue 32RLS

The Alliance Avenue 32RLS is the baby brother to the Alliance Paradigm.

And Alliance is a popular new brand with a fresh design and quality features like Azdel siding and double awnings and impressive storage.

That said, it is a bit above Wil and Jen’s budget, though it is still within the limits of what their truck can tow. The 32RLS exterior color is predominantly white and isn’t Jen’s favorite look, though she did like the design of the front end.

The interior color scheme is light and bright, which Wil and Jen liked quite a bit. The interior is also of higher quality and has that full-time living look and feel. You get double flush slide-outs in the living area and there are no floor vents, so it’s pet friendly, which is important because of their dogs. The windows in the living area give it an atrium look. The dinette has a bench that doubles as an ottoman that you can slide into the living room, which Jen liked a lot.

In the kitchen, you get good counter space on both sides of the cooktop and the island is spacious as well. There’s also a taco bar with an attractive backsplash. The fridge is two-way but with a brushed aluminum surface instead of matching the cabinets like the Grand Design. Last but not least, you also get a residential microwave and a tall pantry.

The bathroom has an exceptional shower that easily passed Wil’s tall test and Jen noticed it offered a ledge that would be perfect for shaving legs. And there was no doubt the toilet aced the “Four P’s”.

As for the bedroom, Wil and Jen liked the sliding barn door and the king-size bed with USB ports on the nightstands on both sides. The closet was huge and prepped for a washer and dryer. You also get a big dresser and tons of storage under the bed.

The Avenue stands out in terms of quality and serviceability, the colors are really good inside, and the dual awning and double flush floor slides helped the Alliance shine. Will and Jen also really liked all the counter space in the kitchen and the clever dinette bench.

2022 Jayco Eagle HT 28.5RLTS

2022 Jayco Eagle HT 28.5RLTS

The Jayco Eagle HT 28.5RLTS is the lightest and cheapest of the four mid-profile contenders. It is actually below Wil and Jen’s budget and would be easy for their Chevy 2500HD to tow, which is why Matt made a point to show this unit to them.

There is a single awning on the exterior and the storage is a bit smaller than the other three units. Though the Eagle HT does boast some cool features, such as a hand railing on the entrance stairs. Even better, this unit had a nice outside kitchen with drawers and a refrigerator, which none of the others had. It also has a JayPort where you can attach a propane grill, which is nice. The Jayco also has a 2-year warranty versus the 1-year warranty on the other three units.

The Jayco was also unique in having the only farmhouse-style interior, which both Wil and Jen liked. However, because of the rear kitchen outside, the living room windows are flipped to the opposite side, which means the view would be of the neighbor's campsite.

In terms of the kitchen, the Eagle HT had less counter space and no taco bar, and a smaller fridge. Though it had a large amount of pantry space, there wasn’t a good spot to plug in a coffee maker without the taco bar.

The living space did not have a flush floor slide, though the unit did have whisper quite fully ducted AC.

It was the bathroom through where this unit compared unfavorably. The small radius shower did not pass Wil’s tall test and didn’t offer a place for Jen to shave her legs, either. The toilet did pass the “Four P’s”, but the shower was definitely not up to par with the competition.

The bedroom also was not their favorite among the four contenders because it has a north-to-south queen bed, which was both a smaller mattress and had less space to walk around or get dressed.

That said, Jen did like that the Eagle HT had a flipped layout because it was refreshing and different. The unit had a decent amount of storage and pantry space. And Wil and Jen could appreciate that it was less expensive and lighter than the other three mid-profile contenders.

And Wil and Jen did ultimately choose just ONE of these four awesome mid-profile 5th wheels.

The question is, which one of them fits their lifestyle – and your lifestyle – the best?
